Horse–rider combi analysis
As riders, we strive to form a perfectly harmonious team with our horse. We do everything we can to give our horse the best care. But as a rider, do we do the same for ourselves?
If your horse goes down, there is a good chance that a veterinarian, osteopath, masseur, physio, … will visit him as soon as possible. But remember that time you flew full into the jump or got a kick on your knee?
Taking the best care of your horse also includes taking good care of yourself. Because if your back is tight, if you see better through 1 eye, if due to tension your shoulders are uneven, if your ankle hurts, … How does this affect you as a horse-rider combination?
A horse is a mirror, and I encounter it so often that when I tell the owner exactly what was stuck with his that he looks at me very surprised and says “I have exactly the same thing.”
We all want a horse as straight as possible, but what if as a rider we ourselves are crooked and full of compensations and decompensations? Do you then pass that on to your horse? Is that why going left might be better than going right?
Who influences whom? You your horse or your horse you?
Figure it out and once you find the cause, you can start training smarter and you will find that you become a team faster an make more progress.
